Now Carol Danvers has made her MCU debut, you may be wondering what Marvel movies are coming out after Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios is currently keeping their specific MCU Phase 4 plans under wraps, with Kevin Feige suggesting nothing will be revealed until after Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. However, we do know of many projects in development.
A lot of change is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019. Avengers: Endgame represents an end to the eleven-year story of the MCU, with very different movies coming after. Even bigger, the Disney/Fox acquisition is expected to conclude by June, which will mean the films rights for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will be handed back to Marvel. Additionally, it’s not expected that Marvel will announce every movie for MCU Phase 4 in one go; Feige believes the Phase 3 announcement backfired, diverting attention to future projects when Marvel wanted viewers to enjoy one film at a time.
All that said, we still know a fair bit about the future MCU slate. Captain Marvel is just the first of three Marvel blockbusters to drop in 2019, and a number of other projects are in development, expected to release between now and 2021.
Avengers: Endgame - April 26, 2019
Next up is Avengers: Endgame, due to release on April 26. The fourth Avengers movie, this will see Brie Larson reprise the role of Captain Marvel and team up with the classic Avengers, Rocket Raccoon, and Ant-Man. It’s the swan song for the OG Avengers, with both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans expected to bow out as Iron Man and Captain America. The challenge facing the Avengers has never been greater; can they successfully undo or avert the snap, and save half the life in the universe?

Spider-Man: Far From Home - July 5, 2019
Nobody seriously doubts that the Avengers will succeed, albeit at a cost, and Spider-Man: Far From Home is confirmed to be set minutes after Avengers: Endgame. According to Kevin Feige, Peter Parker will “hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner.” Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will team up with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill in order to take on the threat of Mysterio, and the film’s due out on July 5.

Black Widow - Likely 2020
Black Widow is currently expected to release in 2020, with filming reportedly delayed until June because of a final script rewrite. Scarlett Johansson is believed to be netting a cool $15 million salary for the film, which is rumored to be an origin story explaining how the assassin wound up working for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the first place.

The Eternals - Likely 2020
One of Marvel’s lesser-known properties, The Eternals are an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created millennia ago by the powerful aliens known as the Celestials. It’s believed the plot will span millennia, revealing the secret history of the Eternal race in the MCU. The latest reports suggest Marvel is looking to cast their first openly gay male lead. This is expected to be Marvel’s other 2020 release.

Black Panther 2 - Likely 2021
Black Panther was a cultural hit even by Marvel Studios’ standards and netted them an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. So it’s no surprise to see Marvel pushing ahead with Black Panther 2, with Ryan Coogler confirmed to both write and direct. Marvel will be hoping that lightning can strike twice for this franchise.

Doctor Strange 2 - Likely 2021
After years of rumors, Doctor Strange 2 finally appears to be in the works. Scott Derrickson will be returning as director, while there have been reports Robert C. Cargill is in talks to write the script. According to Benedict Wong, filming could start this year, which pretty much confirms this for a 2021 release.
Shang-Chi - Release Date Unknown
Shang-Chi is another unexpected addition to the Marvel slate, with reports that Marvel is seeking an Asian or Asian-American director. Dave Callaham has been pegged as writer, and Marvel’s goal is to create “a new hero who blends Asian and Asian American themes, crafted by Asian and Asian American filmmakers.” Shang-Chi is one of Marvel’s premiere martial artists in the comics, and this project is unlike anything in the MCU to date.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - On Hold
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally expected to be the next film after Spider-Man: Far From Home, releasing in May 2020. However, director James Gunn was fired by Disney after controversial tweets resurfaced and all development halted. The studio is reportedly still planning to use Gunn’s original script, but the movie has yet to find a replacement. Gunn, meanwhile, has moved over to DC to direct 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
