While the events of Avengers: Infinity War left Scarlet Witch’s fate somewhat ambiguous, how much of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch should fans expect to see in future? Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff was first introduced during a brief teaser in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with Avengers: Age Of Ultron explaining she and her brother Pietro (AKA Quicksilver) gained superpowers after being experimented on by HYDRA’s Wolfgang von Strucker. While initially something of an antagonist, Wanda later joined the Avengers after her brother was killed during the Sokovia battle.
While never a main character in the franchise, Scarlet Witch brought heart to the team, especially in the touching relationship that develops between her and the Vision (Paul Bettany) over the course of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Their love story forms an important, tragic subplot of the latter entry, with both characters seemingly dead by the end credits, alongside Black Panther, Spider-Man, Falcon and many others.
That said, death in a comic book movie isn’t necessarily a barrier to a character returning, so here are the upcoming Scarlet Witch projects on Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel contract.
Avengers: Endgame
While Marvel is keeping exact details of Avengers: Endgame’s plot a secret, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that supposedly dead characters will return somehow. Time travel will reportedly be a big factor in the story, which in itself could explain Wanda’s reappearance. Of course, it’s highly unlikely the major heroes will all remain dead by the time Endgame’s is finished, so both Scarlet Witch and Vision should be among the resurrected.
The Vision And Scarlet Witch
Disney is currently planning lots of exclusive content for their Disney+ streaming service, including limited series based around Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki and The Vision And Scarlet Witch. No solid plot details have been revealed for The Vision And Scarlet Witch, but with the Falcon/Winter Soldier show reportedly taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, there’s a good chance the show will follow a resurrected Wanda and Vision.
Scarlet Witch always had to share the limelight with bigger MCU names in her past big screen outings, so The Vision And Scarlet Witch series will be able to flesh both characters out in much greater detail. Jac Schaeffer, who worked on the screenplays for both Captain Marvel and the forthcoming Black Widow movie, will serve as showrunner and writer on The Vision And Scarlet Witch’s pilot, with the show set to launch in 2019.
Beyond the upcoming limited series, Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU future is unclear, but if the limited series proves to be a success, there’s every chance Scarlet Witch could remain a part of the franchise. The response to the solo Black Widow could inspire Marvel to develop a Scarlet Witch movie too, though Olsen has revealed in past interviews she’s not exactly pushing for one either.
