This promises to be a fantastic series for fans of classic sci-fi, and is far from the first time that Dick’s work has been adapted for the screen. Blade Runner, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, and Total Recall are all based on stories by the prolific author. Now, the project is continuing to pick up speed, as three new casting announcements come to light.
Steve Buscemi, Greg Kinnear, and Mireille Enos are all joining the anthology series, according to a new report from Variety. Buscemi will be the lead in an episode written by Tony Grisoni and directed by Marc Munden, titled ‘Crazy Diamond’. He will be playing an average man who gets involved with a gorgeous, synthetic woman. Kinnear and Enos will be appearing together in an episode written and directed by Michael Dinner, titled ‘Father Thing’. This episode sees the two as parents whose son is one of the first to realize that aliens are quietly taking over planet Earth.
As each of the ten episodes are set to involve a different cast, there are sure to be plenty more casting announcements on the way soon for the series. So far, stars confirmed to be involved also include Timothy Spall, Anne Reid, Tuppence Middleton, Hayley Squires, Jack Reynor, Benedict Wong and Geraldine Chaplin.
Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams has already begun production, and is set to be released sometime later this year. The first episode, ‘The Commuter’, will star Spall alongside Reid, Middleton, Rebecca Manley and Anthony Boyle. Sci-fi fans and fans of series like Black Mirror are likely to be looking forward to this latest anthology, which looks like it will be packed with big names and stories that range from the creepy to the comedic, and everything in between. Of course, we will have to wait until the show is released to see exactly how these stories are being adapted, but the big names attached (and the incredible source material) certainly have fans excited.
