Former Dancing With The Stars star Christie Brinkley revealed that her arm has shattered “into a thousand little pieces” after her accident during one of her last rehearsals.

Christie Brinkley is best known for her blonde locks, which made the cover of Sports Illustrated a precedent three times for their swimsuit issues back in the 1970s. She was married to musician Billy Joel and spent twenty-five years as a spokesperson for Cover Girl cosmetics and has appeared on over 500 magazine covers. The model was recently taken out of Dancing With The Stars due to an arm injury, and, luckily, Brinkley’s daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, stepped up to help her mother even though Sailor has terrible stage fright.

Right as Brinkley hit the hard, wood floor, she was aware that she was not going to be able to make her debut on the Dancing With The Stars stage to show all that she had accomplished.  In a new interview with People, the supermodel knew unequivocally that she had broken her arm during her accident. She explained that the moment she landed from the fall, she could feel the shards moving within her arm; all she could do was apologize to her dance partner. The cover model had a bone from her thumb pointing the wrong direction, as well as one bone completely shattered.

Brinkley underwent surgery on Friday, September 13, and is now having to use strong pain killers while she heals. The truly positive model has a long road to recovery after her spill while rehearsing for Dancing With The Stars. The accident gave her multiple broken bones in which the surgeon had to insert a metal plate and screws to repair her shattered arm. In the fall, she had also dislocated her wrist and twisted her ankle. For Brinkley, it has been an emotionally draining experience. She now must come to grips with not being able to compete in the dance competition for which she had trained so hard. The model said she was having the time of her life in the interview, so it was truly devastating to be taken out of the competition. She did not want to let anybody down.

Thanks to her daughter, Sailor, Brinkley can still feel as if she is a part of season 28 of Dancing With The Stars. Sailor, who has a model herself, has agreed to take her mother’s spot and compete in the rest of the competition. This made Brinkley feel much better because as soon as she had the accident, she thought she would be letting her coach, fans, and family down. Thankfully, there was a silver lining in her look-alike daughter; and fans know everything will work out in the end.
