Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle admitted that her favorite reality TV show isn’t some intellectual BBC docu-series, but Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The former TV actress didn’t mention if she watches with the Queen or not.
Markle, who used to star on USA Network’s law drama Suits, met Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in 2016 through a mutual friend. After hitting it off during a blind date, the pair was inseparable. Markle left her career as a TV actress and she and Harry eventually married in May last year. About a year later, on May 6, 2019, the couple welcomed their son, Archie. While Markle’s life since becoming a Duchess has mostly involved working with charities, visiting international dignitaries, and taking care of her newborn, she still finds time to be a regular old human being - and sometimes that means sitting on the couch watching reality TV.
In an interview on UKTV’s “Dave” show in 2016, Markle admitted that her “guilty pleasure” is The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Since the interview was posted two years before Markle would officially become a royal, it’s unclear if she’s still tuning into Bravo at the Frogmore Cottage - but it’s nice to think so. Unfortunately, Markle deleted her personal social media presence before she married Prince Harry, so The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans won’t be able to get to hear her hot takes on “puppygate” this season (surely, she’s got a few).
Markle also revealed in the UKTV interview that the first role she ever auditioned for was “Hot Girl No. 1” in a movie with Ashton Kutcher (which she got), and that the book she’s most excited to share with her kids is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The one person Markle said she’d want to get a drink with, alive or dead, would be Anthony Bourdain, and she’d order a Negroni so she’d look “cool,” she added. Other fun facts the now-Duchess shared: she’d switch places with her dog Bogart if she could be any animal for a day, her favorite pizza topping is chili peppers, and if she were a superhero, her super power would be teleportation and her kryptonite would be wine.
Over the past year, Markle has fully transformed into royalty - she’s almost never spotted without a dramatic hat, for instance. But it’s still comforting to remember she was at one point just a normal woman obsessed with reality TV like the rest of us.
