Screen Rant exclusively announces Nat Geo WILD’s newest series, Dr. T, Lone Star Vet, as the cable network heads to Texas to see what happens in a veterinary clinic that caters to exotic animals. Dr. Lauren Thielen is the latest animal care professional to join the ranks of National Geographic’s reality TV programming, and the veterinarian is sure to leave her mark as her clinic is open to any and all animals that come through her door. That means she’ll treat everything from llamas to emus to hedgehogs to a bearded dragon.
Nat Geo WILD’s slate of animal-centric reality programming is an educational and entertaining blend of whimsy and wondrous. The cable network has already taken viewers behind of the scenes of one of the biggest zoos in the U.S. in Secrets of the Zoo and it has introduced them to Steve Erwin’s disciple in Out There with Jack Randall. Viewers have also been treated to an insider’s look at arctic wolves in Kingdom of the White Wolf, and learned that there is no such thing as a bad dog in Dog Impossible.
Joining the ranks of Nat Geo WILD in October is Dr. Thielen, or Dr. T (and no, it’s not a spinoff of the Robert Altman film Dr. T & The Women, though it, too, was set in Texas), who sees her southern charm and veterinary skills put to the test as her growing practice quickly becomes the go-to destination for exotic animals in the Lone Star state. Take an exclusive peek at a preview for the upcoming series Dr. T, Lone Star Vet below:
It’s clear from the preview that Dr. T will be more in keeping with the tone of Secrets at the Zoo and Out There with Jack Randall. The series leaves plenty of room for laughs as Dr. Thielen surrounds herself with some eccentric co-workers and some even more eccentric animals. Through it all, though, Dr. T never loses her cool, even when a 40-pound lizard waddles into her clinic.
It’ll take plenty of southern charm and determination to make her bustling veterinary practice (and new TV series) work, but Dr. T and her staff certainly seem up to the task. As Nat Geo WILD’s line-up of reality TV shows continues to grow, it’ll be interesting to watch as Dr. Thielen’s exotic animal practice does the same.
